Major Delta Health Initiative Conference in Lake Village, AR on Sept. 5, 2013Posted on August 21, 2013 at 05:32 PM The Delta Grassroots Caucus would like to forward this message about a very important regional health care conference convened by Congressman Rick Crawford (R-AR) set for Sept. 5, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lake Village Expo Center in Lake Village, Arkansas. (NOTE: Quick update on Oct. 17-18 Delta regional conference in Memphis: Former Congressman Asa Hutchinson and former Congressman Mike Ross, the two front-running candidates in the hotly contested Arkansas governors race, have confirmed that they will speak at this conference.) Other confirmed speakers include Mayor A. C. Wharton of Memphis, and we expect several Members of Congress to be there, as usual. We will have experts on job creation and entrepreneurialism, healthcare for underserved areas, the agriculture, nutrition, and rural development sections of the farm bill, transportation, broadband expansion and other infrastructure, renewable energy and energy efficiency, Delta heritage tourism, and other key regional issues. We will have community leaders from all eight states of the Greater Delta Region. Health care for underserved areas in the Delta, nutrition and job creation will be key issues for the Memphis conference. For schedule, registration, and group hotel information about the Oct. 17-18 Delta conference at the Memphis Agri-Center, go to the website at www.mdgc.us and go to the “Caucus Articles” link and scroll down to the article about the Oct. 17-18 Delta conference at the Memphis Agri-Center.) We are excited about the opportunity of bringing people together to find common ground, discuss what’s working, identify ways we can work together and support one another - all for the goal of maximizing efforts to improve the health of the people living in the tri-state Delta of Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Our day will open with registration at 9:30am and the conference will begin at 10:00am. We have exciting news that this morning we’ve confirmed the Delta Funders Road Tour will be joining the Delta Health Initiatives Program (DHIP) at the Lake Village Expo Center- rather than their originally scheduled venue at the Lake Village Fire Station. Above in this message is the revised DHIP Save the Date! agenda incorporating the Delta Funders session at 2:00pm. In addition to our original schedule of a day exploring how we are working to improve health in the Delta and how to amplify our efforts, this is an added opportunity for people who are excited about making a difference to get together with Funders interested in helping make things happen. In the Delta Funders session, you’ll get tips on writing a quality grant application and making the connections for a solid proposal, you’ll also hear directly from the Funders and learn what types of projects they support. If you have a Fact Sheet on your project(s) and activity(ies) in the Delta and you haven’t already, please don’t forget to get that to me by close of business Monday, August 26 so we can include it in the e-syllabus/resource library. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to let Catherine Bain of AFMC know (her contact info is below). Otherwise, we’ll see you September 5 in Lake Village.
